چکیده

PURPOSE OF REVIEW The purpose of this article is to briefly review the literature of corticosteroid-induced ocular hypertension and glaucoma, its risk factors, the pathophysiology, and treatment options. In particular, literature pertaining to glaucoma in response to intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide will be reviewed. RECENT FINDINGS Primary open-angle glaucoma, status as a glaucoma suspect, and a family history of glaucoma are risk factors for an ocular hypertensive response with the use of corticosteroid therapy. Recent studies suggest that younger age may also be a risk factor in patients treated via the intravitreal route with corticosteroids. The mechanism of elevated intraocular pressure is increased aqueous outflow resistance owing to an accumulation of extracellular matrix material in the trabecular meshwork. SUMMARY Corticosteroid-induced ocular hypertension and glaucoma has been recognized for more than 50 years. Knowing the risk factors, prevalence, and pathophysiology can help the clinician prevent, monitor, and treat corticosteroid-induced ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

Rho Kinase Inhibitors as a Novel Treatment for Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

In an elegant example of bench-to-bedside research, a hypothesis that cells in the outflow pathway actively regulate conventional outflow resistance was proposed in the 1990s and systematically pursued, exposing novel cellular and molecular mechanisms of intraocular pressure (IOP) regulation. The critical discovery that pharmacologic manipulation of the cytoskeleton of outflow pathway cells dec...

Determination of the frequency and response to treatment of ocular lesions in children with various types of intrauterine infections (cytomegalovirus and toxoplasmosis): brief report

Background: Intrauterine infections (TORCH) lead to the involvement of various organs of the body of the fetus, including the eye. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and clinical response of eye lesions to specific drugs, in infants with confirmed TORCH induced ocular lesions. Methods: This historical cohort study from 2011 to 2017, had done in Pediatrics and Ophthalmology De...

Background and purpose: This is a study to compare the efficacy and side effects of betaxolol and timolol in lowering the IOP of primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Materials and Methods: This Double-blind randomized cross-over clinical trial was conducted on 29 eyes of 20 patients with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Each patient received timolol 0.5% a...

Severe Corticosteroid-Induced Ocular Hypertension Requiring Bilateral Trabeculectomies in a Patient with Takayasu's Arteritis

We present a rare case of severe corticosteroid-induced ocular hypertension (OHT) after prolonged systemic corticosteroid use in a young woman with Takayasu's arteritis. As she did not sufficiently respond to ocular antihypertensive therapies, bilateral enhanced trabeculectomies were required to normalize her intraocular pressures. The systemic side effects of corticosteroids are well known, ye...
